Self-Care

Updated: Apr 7, 2020

The importance of self-care at this time is very important. With change all around us, our nervous system has to try to keep up with it all. One of the only ways to do this is by putting self-care actions in place. This will soften our insecurity and the fear of the unknown as we are traveling into uncharted territory. The greater the changes, the more self-care is needed. Sometimes we need to start with the basics. Exercise, having lunch with a friend, whatever it is that brings you joy, just do it! Sometimes letting your body rest is key. When you have a disruption in your regular schedule, sleep is so important to recharge and regroup. We need to remember to bring in self-care before we really need it. In the past, we were never taught to put ourselves first or to take care of ourselves. It was handed down to put everyone else first and now we’re finally looking at things differently. We are not Superwomen or Superman even though we have tried to step into their shoes. It’s time to teach a new way of being. By modeling self-care, we could change the world. Imagine if we no longer needed an excuse to honor ourselves as we wish. We no longer have to get sick to have a day off. We don’t have to run ourselves into the ground on a so-called day off because that is what we do. What if we just followed listening to our body in the moment and even our soul to see what we really want? That would be a kind of GPS system that would guide us to what’s next when we’re ready. Let’s all challenge ourselves for one week to put self-care first and to model what’s right for us. I would love to hear what you come up with.
