A friend was in the other day and we were talking about how much is on our plates right now and how we just have to get through things at this time. Then he said something that made me stop and think. He said, “Do what serves you.” Sometimes spirit flashes things to me like a strobe light when it's important to stop and think about it. That's what happened and I wanted to pause and think about it. What a concept! Do what serves me? What does that even mean? It's so foreign that I am always doing what serves others, putting them first. I asked him what he meant by that and he said, “Sometimes you can only take small steps to do what you can do to best serve you in the moment.” We got talking about my hip and restriction of range of motion and he was sharing that I may only be able to do Yin Yoga and try stretching, and not to worry if I need to modify or only do the same poise over and over. Only do what I can do in the moment that helps me.
As I have been taught by example from a very loving Mother to put everyone else first I thought what a different way of thinking. Of course, it makes sense. With this New Year, I have been changing my habits. I've been going to bed early and so I can rise earlier and do my routines for myself first; meditate, journal, exercise, pull my cards, and read. I have two whole hours to myself. It has been resetting me because then I have the energy to do what I love and help others. Maybe that is why this rang so important to me when he suggested that. Ask yourself what's serves you in each and every circumstance and go for it. I asked myself if I should join the gym and see what I can do with my hip like this or should I wait until I can do more? Dave gave me my answer.
Do what you can do that serves me now. Thanks, Dave!
