Every year I get so excited about Valentine's Day but not for the reason you think. I love that we celebrate a day that's focused on love and the heart. I'm not into the obligation of buying gifts or making the jewelry stores richer. For me, it’s really about taking the time to appreciate those you love, and this especially includes YOU! We all know the importance of self-love and it has really become a buzz word in the new age community. There are many who talk the talk but don't walk the walk. Many of you have asked me what self-love looks like. Self-love is the expression of what you can do that brings you joy. What makes you feel alive? Do you like quiet walks, massages, naps, playing with your dog, doing crafts or whatever you love? It really doesn't matter how long you do it for, but your intention behind it. Wouldn't you really rather receive a gift of love from your partner that gives of their time and energy, then just another gift certificate? What would it be like to give your partner a massage yourself? If we give to those, we love it's a natural thing for them to genuinely give back out of love. This Valentine's Day is creative and give the gift of yourself to those you love.
I always think of the heart and heart health at this time of year, especially after what I've been going through. This should be one part of the body that deserves so much attention. Take the time to notice daily how your heart feels. It will always tell you if you take the time to listen to it. If you don't, it may give you signs in your body that something is out of whack. Please listen. I have been spending time daily to talk to my heart as part of my self-care. Sometimes my heart talks right back and it's not always what I want to hear. The heart stores so much - pretty much everything. It records all our feelings and emotions and takes the hit from others who have directed anger towards us.
I suggest that at this time you make time for some heart medicine. The medicine I talk about is love, kindness, and attention. You can take even 5 minutes a day to tune in. Don't wait till it's too late. The heart is always speaking, but we're not always listening. Give yourself the gift of your own love and watch what changes!
