Self-Care In The New Year

This time of year carries a unique energy that is quiet on the surface, yet deeply moving beneath. The natural world slows, the days grow shorter, and our bodies and nervous systems ask for the same gentleness. Self-care during this season is
not indulgent or optional, it is a form of listening. When we honor rest, warmth, nourishment, and emotional space, we align ourselves with the wisdom of Winter rather than resisting it. I have noticed that rest is being emphasized in everyone's readings for the New Year.
Many people feel like they should just push through the season, especially after the busyness of the holidays. But self-care now is about tending to what is tender. You may have to learn to say no more often to take care of yourself. You may need to soften expectations or create simple rituals that make you feel safe and comfy.
These small acts will regulate your nervous system and remind your body that it does have permission to slow down.
When we practice self-care at this time of year, we are not falling behind, we are restoring our bodies, minds and our souls. We are rebuilding our reserves so that when movement and momentum return, we are grounded and rooted instead of depleted.
This season invites us to nurture ourselves the way we would nurture others. Rest, renew, pamper, and nurture now, so you will be ready to move again later.
