Own Your Feelings

Ever wonder why it’s so hard for some to express their feelings while others are all feelings? Me too! I, for one, am one of those people that feels everything - the good, the bad, and the ugly. Being an empath like most of you isn't easy. Sure, it's great when you share in people's joy or happy occasions but when it's on the other end of things it's no fun. I have been told most of my life by men, (not my current husband) that I am too emotional. I'm asked what's wrong with me? In my defense, nothing is wrong with me. This is just who I am.

Many think they can't express what they feel because that will make them too vulnerable. If they put out how they feel it can be used against them. They show their hand to others. We’re not playing poker folks, it's ok. By allowing yourself to express your feelings, you can own them. That gives us permission to open the door to communication, so if there is a problem between you and another, it can be solved.

Holding it in can only lead to your physical body having to process it in all ways that may jeopardize your health and that certainly isn't worth it! We play Russian roulette and drive our cortisol through the roof and that makes us even more stressed out and solves nothing.

So, what are we really afraid of by not expressing our feelings? Maybe being judged, or maybe we just don't want to open the door for further discussion. If that's the case, we may think we are safe by holding it in and swallowing it down yet one more time until the next time it comes up.

Most will tell everybody else about their feelings except the person they are needing to express them to. It's better to go direct always. Once you have expressed them, don't try to backpedal. OWN them! This is the most important thing ever. That way we are unapologetically expressing our truth, and owning it! Remember we are entitled to our feelings because they are OUR feelings. We have the right to feel whatever we feel, owning OUR truth. God made us all different and just like the different colors of the rainbow, we express differently and feel differently. This is not only normal but acceptable. So the next time you feel the need to hold your feelings hostage, don't! Let them out and express them with kindness, for you are expressing them in reality for yourself. Expressing all of them can open the door to solving misunderstandings, and lead to the growth of many relationships. Try it, you’ll like it!

Feelings don't just magically go away. They can haunt us like a small child wanting a cookie while you're on the phone. They will not go away until they get what they want.
